The Building Materials and Technology Promotion Council (BMTPC) works to design and implement an integrated, holistic approach to the promotion of environmentally sound and energy-efficient innovative construction materials and processes. The assessment framework, which is voluntary and consensus-based, was developed based on specific materials and technologies that are green homes currently available. The green housing community ranking is a set of guidelines for housing communities to adopt measures that reduce their use of natural resources.
To date, 50 Residential Societies, comprising about 20 million square feet, have adopted the Rating throughout India. The Residential Societies Green rating is intended to allow existing housing developments to adopt and track eco-friendly concepts, which will lead to several benefits for residents. The Green Residential Society rating is based on accepted principles of energy and environmentalism and strikes a balance between known well-established practices and emerging concepts. The overall goal of a Green Affordable Homes Rating is to provide high levels of sustainable living without/little extra costs for either developers or residents.
